Mike Motta

Founder and Executive Chairman

Mike Motta has over 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur in the health, fitness, and wellness industry, focusing his efforts in staff leadership, personnel coaching/development, technology innovation, facility design, personal training, corporate wellness, and physical therapy.

In 1986, Mike founded Plus One Health Management, an organization dedicated to seeing healthy results through customized on-site solutions for the individuals and organizations they serve. Plus One designs, programs, staffs, and manages on-site wellness centers, fitness centers, and urban spas, and provides physical therapists, registered dieticians and professional wellness specialists for Fortune 100 clients in 166 locations across 26 states, D.C., Canada and Puerto Rico. In 2010, Mike received the Dale S. Dibble Distinguished Service Award from the International Health and Racquet Sports Association (IHRSA), upon whose board of directors he served from 2004-2008. In addition, Mike currently serves as a member of the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA) Business and Industry Sector Planning Committee, which is working on the 2010-11 National Implementation of the U.S. Physical Activity Plan. He is also a member of the University of Massachusetts/Amherst Advisory Board for the School of Public Health, and a member of the Board of Directors for www.healthpromotionadvocates.org.

Prior to founding Plus One, Mike served as a professor of Physical Education and coach of football and lacrosse at the State University of New York at Albany. He received a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Ithaca College while serving a Graduate Assistantship coaching football and lacrosse. He also completed three years of post-graduate studies in Applied Physiology at Columbia University in New York City.

Mike is an active volunteer firefighter in Briarcliff Manor, as well as an active volunteer at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. He was also a Disaster Relief volunteer for The American Red Cross with experience at Ground Zero on 9/11.

Chris Ciatto
Chief Executive Officer

Chris joined Plus One in early 2005 and has leveraged his years of strategy, operations, and leadership experience to help the company achieve significant growth. In this time, Chris has implemented an overall growth strategy – including the execution of three successful acquisitions – that has propelled Plus One into its position as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the country.  He has driven many operational improvements around Quality Assurance, Customer Service, and Safety.  Prior to joining Plus One, Chris was credited with both the creation and leadership of a newly assembled services business unit for ARAMARK Corporation. Chris served as President of ARAMARK’s Clinical Technology Services business, a marketplace leader representing $320 million in annual revenues. Prior to his career at ARAMARK, Chris was a member of the partnership at the renowned strategy consulting firm, McKinsey & Company, where he focused on helping some of the country’s leading consumer and technology companies grow their businesses. Chris earned a joint Bachelor’s in Political Science and Economics from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Tom Maraday
Chief Development Officer

As Chief Development Officer, Tom Maraday leads new business development, marketing strategy, and program and facility design at Plus One. Tom has had a direct impact on Plus One’s growth through his numerous leadership roles since beginning his career at Plus One in 1990. He joined the company as an Exercise Specialist training celebrities and high profile clients, and then moved quickly through the ranks as Program Director, Director of Fitness Education, and General Manager at Plus One in SoHo. In 1998, Tom was named Vice President of all Plus One Operations, and in 2000 he was appointed Vice President of Design, Development, and Information Technology before assuming a Senior Vice President position from 2002 to 2010.

In his role as Chief Development Officer, Tom and his team serve as the driving force in securing key contracts among many Fortune 1000 companies, real estate developers, and luxury properties. This growth has landed Plus One as one of the fastest growing private companies by Inc. 500 Magazine for five consecutive years.  Tom has positioned Plus One Health Management as the premier provider of choice to address these organizations’ unique and varied fitness center and wellness needs. 

Tom is also the founder of the Plus One Cares Community Outreach Program and serves as senior advisor to the Plus One Cares Steering Committee. Tom is a frequent presenter at various conferences and events and holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Performance from Southern Connecticut State University. He also serves as an active volunteer at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City and is an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

Lisa Fierstein
Chief Financial Officer

Lisa is responsible for all of Plus One’s financial operations.  Lisa has 20 years of financial experience, most recently as CFO at the New Meadowlands Stadium Company. During her tenure there, Lisa was a critical member of the start-up organization, developing the operating finance structure by building the finance team and implementing the financial systems. Prior to that, Lisa was a member of Zagat Survey, where she was responsible for all of the organization’s financial operations, including planning and analysis of their business.  She has held various financial management positions within the advertising, media, entertainment, and telecommunications industries.  Lisa is a Certified Public Accountant and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Rutgers University School of Business.

Matt Sylvestre
Chief Information Officer

Matt leads the strategic development and expansion of Plus One systems, client-facing technology service offerings, and partner web-based solution integration. Since entering the technology industry in 1993, Matt has combined his project management, software development, and system integration skills with practical business experience to help human resource service providers and e-commerce companies tangibly enhance their value propositions. Prior to joining Plus One, Matt transformed the failing legacy technology of the HR services company, TharpeRobbins, into the incentive, performance, and award industry’s leading software as service platform. Matt also drove the successful implementation of Oracle ERP applications for the American Power Conversion’s Tokyo operation, leading a team in the first production implementation of Oracle Web Customer, an online customer service portal. Matt also provided consulting services to Johnson & Johnson and Benefits Concepts, and served as interim CIO at edu.com and managed the technical development and deployment of the Web 2.0 based social networking service, MomJunction.com. Matt holds a Masters in Management Information Systems from Bentley College and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Bryant University.

Dave Milani
Vice President, Human Resources

Dave leads delivery of strategic and operational human resources services that ensure our talent is optimally deployed to meet the needs of our clients and members. Dave has 10 years of experience in the development of progressive human resources practices that support growth-oriented organizations in various service industries. Previous to Plus One, Dave served as HR Director for RCG Information Technology, a nationally-recognized provider of information technology services to Fortune 500, mid-market and government clients. Prior to RCG IT, he helped develop effective human resources functions at Viatel, an international telecommunications provider and Magic Solutions International, a developer of help desk management software systems. Dave holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources Management from Rowan University, a Masters in Human Resources Management from Boston University and holds SPHR and CEBS certifications.

John Holding
Senior Vice President, Operations

As SVP, Operations, John shapes and develops the strategy and infrastructure of Plus One’s field operations function. Prior to his current role, John served as the Regional Vice President overseeing Plus One’s corporate clientele in the Western U.S. as well as the company’s community-based BootCamp business. John has made significant contributions towards Plus One’s operational excellence, including his role in the analysis of Key Performance Indicators, the analysis of potential acquisition opportunities, and the development of Plus One’s Risk Management Manual. Before joining Plus One, John served as COO of TimeOut Services, a regional provider of fitness services in Northern California. Prior to that, John provided strategic and financial management consulting services to mid-sized, privately held companies. John has held general management, finance, strategic planning, and marketing positions with a number of companies and joined Plus One in January 2009 when Plus One acquired TimeOut’s corporate fitness center management and Community BootCamp operations. John earned his B.S. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Nancy Ngai
Vice President, Health Promotion and Clinical Integration

As Vice President of Health Promotion and Clinical Integration, Nancy leads the strategic development and implementation of integrated wellness service and programming at Plus One. Prior to her current role, Nancy spent 10 years with Plus One in various capacities including Wellness Coordinator, General Manager and Account Vice President for a Fortune 500 financial services firm. She has been instrumental in launching the wellness program and refinement of integrated program offerings. Nancy is a member of IHRSA and is ACE and NSCA certified. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a Concentration in Wellness and Health Promotion from SUNY Cortland.

Grace De Simone
Director of Group Fitness

Grace coordinates, implements and maintains the quality of all group fitness classes, programs and instructors. Grace has over 30 years of industry experience including teaching, presenting and managing in commercial (including single-gender), corporate, hotel, and community centers. Prior to joining Plus One Health Management, Grace was special projects coordinator for Frontline Fitness, a program coordinator, national fitness consultant and a regional manager for residential and hotel on-site fitness and spa projects for Club Corporations of America. She is also an accomplished freelance writer for health and fitness related articles, having been published in Family Circle, Parenting, Be Well, Shape, OnHealth.com, and Well and Healthy Woman.com. In her 10 years with Plus One, Grace has evolved the group fitness program from 8 sites to 80. Prior to being Director of Group Fitness, she served as Director of Programming and Marketing. Grace is ACSM Certified and is an active member of the ACSM Certified Group Exercise Instructor Certification Development Workgroup. She is an editor for ACSM's Resource Manual for Group Exercise Instructor (LW&W 2010), and a member of the Fitness Advisory Board, IndoBoard Balance Trainer. She is also a member of the Program Director's Committee for the IDEA Association. Grace holds her Bachelor’s in Dance Education from Hunter College.

Kristen Goldberg
Director of Marketing

Kristen leads the strategic development and tactical implementation of Plus One's marketing initiatives including program delivery, corporate communications, community relations and event sponsorship, collateral development, and business development support. Prior to joining Plus One, she gained valuable experience developing and implementing marketing strategies at a leading global technology firm. Her experience includes product launch management, event coordination, training program design, market assessment, and collateral development. Since joining Plus One, Kristen has made a significant impact leading marketing and business development initiatives, and driving results through innovative communication approaches. She holds a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Loyola University Maryland and an M.B.A. from Hofstra University's Frank G. Zarb School of Business.

Jamie Macdonald
Vice President

Jamie is the Account Executive overseeing the operations at a chain of fitness facilities for a leading financial services institution, and also oversees Plus One’s hotel accounts. Jamie has worked in the fitness, wellness, and spa industries since 1988, including management of Espree Leisure’s flagship club in London’s Square Mile. In 1995, Jamie relocated to New York City and managed Plus One's Hotel Division. He was also responsible for launching new accounts and overseeing commercial facilities in SoHo and the World Financial Center. Prior to his current role, Jamie managed a number of key corporate accounts and spent five years leading the Community Center Division. Jamie earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Brunel University in London.

John Buzzerio
Regional Vice President - East

John leads numerous regional accounts and has been active in the health and fitness industry for over 25 years. In that time, John has represented Plus One in Washington, D.C. for the Workforce Health Improvement Act (WHIP Act.) The goal of the WHIP Act creation of a benefits system that offers the same benefit to employees who go to a fitness club as to those who work out at their office fitness center. John has also participated in a roundtable on promoting physical activity and reversing physical inactivity through policy. John has researched the subject of cancer and exercise for over 10 years and has lectured on this topic at the American College of Sports Medicine. He has been a member of the Certified Personal Trainer Sub-Committee, as well as the Committee on Certification and Registry Board for the American College of Sports Medicine. John has also served on several committees with the American Council on Exercise. He is a contributor to The Force Program (Ballantine Books 2001), a book for cancer patients and survivors. He has a Masters in Secondary Education, and holds certifications with the American College of Sports Medicine and American Council on Exercise.

Richard Little
Regional Vice President - Midwest

Richard oversees operations for numerous accounts in the Midwest Region including sites in Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Colorado, California, and Washington. Prior to joining Plus One, Richard spent 15 years at the world-renowned Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas. As Executive Director of Cooper’s corporate wellness and consulting division, he assisted hundreds of organizations with strategic planning, program implementation, and facility operations. Since joining Plus One in August 2006, along with assistance from two district managers and critical Plus One team members, Richard has overseen numerous new site launches. His region has grown significantly in the past two years with his team currently managing twenty-eight locations. He has been actively involved with IHRSA, ACSM, and MFA  and presents regularly on topics such as exceptional customer service, successful club operations, exercise and diabetes, profit centers in the club setting, and successful corporate health and wellness programs. A native Texan, Richard received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his Masters from the University of North Texas.

Lemont Platt
Regional Vice President - Mid-Atlantic

Lemont leads several Mid-Atlantic accounts, providing support for maximum operational efficiency. Prior to joining Plus One Health Management, Lemont was an adjunct professor for the NYU School of Continuing Education in the Personal Trainer certification program. During his over 15 years at Plus One, Lemont has been involved in virtually every aspect of Plus One’s business – from fitness to management; education to virtual training; technology to operations; and safety to maintenance and repair. Lemont has been instrumental in developing Plus One’s first foray into proprietary solutions such as e-commerce for online personal training and membership enrollment, as well as the establishment of standard operating procedures to streamline facility management operations and innovative solutions. In his Operations capacity, Lemont is the Safety Officer responsible for Plus One’s occupational safety and health program, overseeing company compliance, training and execution of OSHA standards and practices. Additionally, he supervises our in-house Exercise Equipment Preventative Maintenance and Service program available to our metro-NYC facilities. Lemont is certified by NSCA, ACE, ACSM and a member of IHRSA, NSCA, and IFMA. He has also served as a conference speaker, reviewer and examiner for ACE/NSCA/ACSM/NATA/IHRSA events and certification programs. Lemont received his M.S. Ed in Exercise Physiology from Queens College and Bachelor’s in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook with a concentration in Athletic Training.

Mindy Roess
Regional Vice President - South

Mindy, a New York native, has molded her career around the fitness, hotel and spa industries. As Regional Vice President, Mindy is responsible for leadership of accounts located in the Southeast and Midwest as well as the overall growth of Plus One in the Southeast. Mindy also serves as Plus One’s National Director of Hospitality and is the driving force behind P.R.I.D.E., Plus One’s proprietary hospitality service delivery program. Prior to being appointed a Regional Vice President, Mindy was the Spa Director for Plus One at New York’s prestigious Trump International Hotel and Towers Spa. She then stepped into a District Manager role serving as the account executive for many prestigious hotel spa and fitness center accounts. Mindy has spent over fourteen years in the hospitality industry, covering all aspects of fitness, wellness, and hospitality spa management and operations. Prior to joining Plus One, Mindy was the Sales and Personal Training Director at a 40,000 square foot commercial fitness center in Brooklyn, New York. Mindy also served in various management roles at New York City luxury hotels such as the Royalton, TriBeCa Grand Hotel, SoHo Grand Hotel, the New York Palace, and the Millenium Hilton. Mindy holds a Bachelor’s from Johnson and Wales University for Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management where she was a three year Dean’s List student. Mindy is also an AFAA certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor.

Dave Shelby
Regional Vice President - New England

Dave provides executive oversight and support to clients and staff in the New England area. Dave has been in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years. Prior to joining Plus One in November 2006, he held several management positions at Fitcorp Fitness Centers, including Director of Operations. Dave works with a wide range of clients in the medical, financial and high-tech industries in and around the New England area. He is an active member of the New England Health Racquet Sports Association and has served on its Board of Directors. Dave holds a Bachelor’s in Health and Fitness from Springfield College.

Veronica Hyatt
Account Vice President

As Plus One’s Account Vice President for a Fortune 500 financial services firm, Veronica leads the strategic direction and implementation of the fitness and nutrition initiatives within the client's facilities.  Veronica comes to Plus One most recently from Town Sports International where she led the corporate operations team that supported 165 clubs.  Prior to Town Sports, Veronica spent nearly 10 years in various sales, marketing, and business analytics positions in the consumer products industry including companies such as The Pillsbury Company, Campbell Soup and Schering-Plough.  Veronica holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters of Science in Marketing from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

Tom McCann
Regional Wellness Director

Tom focuses on expanding Plus One's wellness offerings.  Tom returns to Plus One after having served as a Senior Therapeutic Sales Professional with GlaxoSmithKline.  In his role at GSK, Tom was responsible for providing clinical expertise and driving therapeutic product sales to health care providers in Cardiovascular and Metabolic disease management.  Tom earned numerous awards in his sales career at GSK, including District Sales Professional of the Year, Above and Beyond Award for Business Ownership, and the Entrepreneurial Award for Exceptional Territory Management, Innovation, and Business Planning. Tom originally joined Plus One as an Exercise Specialist at our SoHo facility. From there, Tom rose through the ranks to become a General Manager at Morgan Stanley. Later on, Tom advanced to the role of Corporate Director of Operations before moving his family to Jacksonville, Florida to operate our Merrill Lynch facility as General Manager. In his role as Director of Operations, Tom was integral to our successful growth during this period including the opening of over a dozen new facilities, the recovery efforts after September 11th, and the opening of our current corporate headquarters office space. Tom earned his Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology from Hofstra University.

Dan Naylon
Director of Business Development - Fitness

Dan is responsible for new fitness center business development nationally. Since 2004, Dan has been a catalyst of growth for Plus One with his passion for client service and dedication to the Plus One mission. Dan came to Plus One from Equinox Fitness where he had been the National Corporate Sales Director. Prior to Equinox, Dan spent 7 years as the Corporate Sales Director for Town Sports International, which is the parent company of New York, Washington, Boston and Philadelphia Sports Clubs. Dan also spent 6 years as a Corporate Sales Consultant at the New York Health and Racquet Club. Dan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Buffalo.
