Plus One CEO Challenges Industry to Take Lead in Creating a Healthier America
Mike Motta Sets Vision at IHRSA Summit
NEW YORK May 24, 2010 – Mike Motta, Plus One Health Management Co-Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer, took to the podium at the 8th Annual IHRSA Summit for a Healthier America held May 5-6 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, and challenged the fitness industry to a lofty goal: motivate 1 out of every 4 Americans in all 50 states to engage in 30 minutes of moderate-high intensity activity 5-6 days per week by 2050.
In a series of slides uniquely suited for the Washington D.C. setting, Motta outlined a vision for turning the current trend of “red” states signifying a low percentage of Americans engaging in regular physical activity, into a sea of “blue” states exemplifying a healthy and active population nationwide within 40 years.
As the fitness industry continues to trend more and more towards programming for special populations, Motta encouraged health club owners and operators to “keep it simple” in order to engage the majority of the population that still does not make fitness a part of their daily routine. “Strive every day to do better at what you do best,” Motta urged. “All the rest will follow.”
Motta took the theme of the IHRSA Summit for a Healthier America to heart, imagining the impact all of the attendees could have if they left the conference hall and took up this challenge. With the obesity epidemic continuing to widen, and no effective national solution to physical inactivity currently in operation, his call to action has never been more resonant.
Plus One, under Motta’s leadership, has been executing on this vision for corporate clients nationwide as the industry leader in on-site fitness center and employee wellness program management. Having been named one of Inc. magazine’s fastest-growing private companies for the past three consecutive years, Motta was honored to have the unique opportunity to speak at the Summit. “Our on-site exercise specialists, trainers and wellness coordinators are working tirelessly to make the employees and families of those in corporate America lead healthier, more active lives each and every day. I hope my message resonates to the industry leaders doing the same in communities all across this country.”
